AUGUST

Dog Days of Summer. Watch for disease in the garden.
Powdery mildew and peonies, often as familiar as ants. Not to worry powdery mildew, while unsightly, causes little harm to the plants. There are a few organic options including a foliar spray of rhubarb tincture or simply cutting back the plant come fall. For more information on fall care see our peony care page.

SEPTEMBER

The true work begins again as fall approaches.
For those expecting new peonies from Peonies Envy this fall now is the time to prepare your soil for the incoming plants. For more information on how to do this see our peony care page.Paeonia Japonica seeds mature.

FALL PLANTING PARTY at Peony's Envy
Join Peony's Envy to celebrate the fall planting season.

Fall garden prep! October is the time to cut back your herbaceous peonies. Trim the stems down to a few inches above the ground and throw away these leaves to remove any possible molds or diseases from the garden (do not compost). Clean away any leaves or loose matter surrounding the plants. Do not mulch your herbaceous peonies!!!! This will cause them to be too deep and they will not flower in the coming years. For more information on fall care see our peony care page.

For tree peonies, DO NOT cut them back! Trimming them will cut off the portions that will produce flowers next year. If you wish to trim them to shape them a bit for aesthetic purposes this should be done just after they flower in the spring. For more information on fall care see our tree peony care page.
