ABOUT GANSU TREE PEONIES
Gansu Tree Peonies, often referred to as Rockii Peonies, are a gigantic subset of tree peonies typically known for their large purple flares. Their name comes from their place of origin, the Gansu Region of China and thus they are typically called Gansu Mudan - Mudan translating to tree peony in English. Colors range from the whitest of white to the deepest burgundy, with the most amazing multicolored variations.

The name Rockii comes from the botanist Joseph Rock who helped to introduce one of the Gansu Tree Peonies to the English speaking horticultural community, and thus all peonies from the Gansu Region are often mistakenly called Rockii peonies.

Gansu Mudan flower quickly and become 5' tall partially spreading plants. Our plants are mature, each boasting three or more branche. Unlike our Suffruticosa Tree Peonies our Gansu Mudan varieties are grafted on to a herbaceous root. For more information on site selection and care please see peony care page.
